Rockin the house

Ami came to visit. Grandma Ro could hardly wait till they arrived in Wrightwood.

The plan was to spend the night and go to the Country Club in the morning for the day.

The kids discovered that we had Rock Band. While Ami and I watched the "Bachlorette", the kids were practicing for a concert. During the commercial they gave us a concert

A Day At The Country Club

The kids love to go to the country club which is just a glorified swimming hole. It is the only thing here to o in Wrightwood, but it is great summertime fun.

In order to swim the whole lake and go on the trampoline, divingboard and other lake toys you have to pass a 5 min. swim test. A one min. test lets you just go off the diving board. All the kids tried to pass. You had to tred water for 5 min. than swim to the rope.
The boys were the only ones to do it!
They got their bracelets to be able to go anywhere in the lake

On Wednesday Ami invited me to go to the Santa Ana Zoo with her and the kids. It was so much fun. I haven't been there since my kids were very small.

Ro loves to ride her bike at the beach instead of here in the mountains. Of course I wanted a pink one, but the boys helped me pick out this one called the "Gypsi"

Hard to believe but it's true. Our Ky baby is having a baby.

Kylie and Aaron are sooo excited. I had to keep it shhh for a bit to make sure everything was o.k. But in April I got to go to the Dr. with Kylie and Aaron. I was so excited that Kylie scheduled the appt. when I would be there. Unfortunetly, the Doctor would not do the ultrasound just yet. But Kylie scheduled one in the mall. So we all went to see what our baby was going to be. Can you guess?

We're having a pink one!!! Her name will be Princess Zoie Ann Zahrt. That's Princess "ZAZ "for short. Kylie and Grandma Ro spent the next several days shopping for all things"Pink". Also all the layette stuff a mama needs for a new baby. This also included things like cream for nursing moms and butt paste for the new baby's bottom. Ya know, the important essentials.

We can hardly wait for baby Zoie!!!!

Cory finally gets his license! We went to Riverside because we thought it would be easier place to take the test. However, we didn't know that all around the DMV was under construction. And to top it off, the lady he got to test with had major attitude. She was not happy with mom taking pictures of the big moment.

The Test.....We left off the score because the lady as you can see had a field day with telling Cory where he needed to improve his skills. However, she did pass him and that's what counts!

We got a lot of snow and before it melts away, Brenna and Rilynn came to play. While waiting to go tubing at Mountain High (Cory worked enough hours to get us all free passes) we played at the park for a bit. Brenna's friend Marie joined us. She is now staying here with her parents so it was easy for Brenna to see her as well.

Ro has never been to the Huntington Library. It has always been a dream to go there. Brenna has a membership and invited Grandma Ro for a day at the library with the girls. She even packed a great picnic lunch which we ate by the lilly pond. It was such a warm sunny day and perfect.

Grandma Ro and her grand girls, Princess Kardin and Princess Rilynn. Two of Grandma's favorite princesses! She has 4 grand daughter princesses. Not counting Kylie who still thinks she's one too.Cooling off fingers on a hot day.

Vegas to see Maebelle

Back in the "80's the Church had a Lamonite Program. It worked very much like a exchange program for the Navajo children from Arizona. We were blessed by having a young Navajo girl named Maebelle come to our home. The program was set up as a foster program, and she became our foster daughter. We treasured the time she spent with our family. She left the program early to return to her family and the reservation. Over the years we lost contact with her. But she never forgot us and spent a great deal of time searching for her California family. She found us several months ago. Kylie was going to be in Vegas for New Years. Maebelle lives approx. 6 and 1/2 hrs away from Vegas. So, it seemed like the perfect time and place for a reunion. Brenna and the girls came to spend the night so we could leave early and drive to Vegas. We were all so excited to see Maebelle.

Christmas Eve at Brenna's

Christmas Eve was celebrated at Brenna's this year. Keeping with tradition, we had soup and corn bread. This year it was celebrated with the Paoletti's and the Pizzino Family. Uncle Phil was able to leave the facility with Aunt Jo. It was the "Italian way" so to speak. Everyone eats with their mouth open while talking....an old Italian custom.

The boys introduced Uncle Phil to Wii. Or so we thought. Later, after Brenna took up collections through several contacts to get one for his facility, we found out that the facility has a Wii which Uncle Phil plays all the time.

Also, keeping with tradition of looking at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve in new P.J.s....A tradition we have had since all the children were very small and continued even as they grew and were married

All adult Irwin Children and spouses received the best P.J.'s ever! P.J.'s with Christmas lights.

It was a fun night. Ro worked for a very long time giving the best gifts ever (besides the P.J.'s). She managed to do memory scrapbooks for all. Including Grammy who got a scrapbook calander. Kim and Jeff, and Brenna and Scott received their Wedding Album scrapbooks. They took the longest, but they turned out so beautiful. Kevin got a scrapbook of Winslow his dog. And all the grandkids received a memory book . Making all these books was truely a memory for Ro.

SNOWDAY...Or Snow Week!

Sunday Night It began to snow...and snow! This was Monday morning when Winslow saw snow for the first time. It began around 3 a.m. This was about 7 a.m. We got a call that school would be closed. Cory began shoveling...and shoveling. Before he went up to ski. And when he got back he sholved some more. What the heck! The snow plow blocked the driveway with a huge birm after Cory cleared it.

Then the second day everything was very icy and we had another snow day off of school. We were able to venture out and keep dentist appointments in Orange County. But....when we got home during the night we got dumped on. It has been snowing all day and night. They have declared a full week off of school. We are officially snowed in. All major freeways around us are closed. We can't even get around the village.

Then Cory shoveld some more....We took a chance and drove on unplowed roads to help the Holzendorffs shovel. We had to use 4x4 low. Cory is a shoveling machine! Driving thru town, Park street looked like this.
This is the most snow we have ever had since we moved to Wrightwood. Look at the front porch. If you can find it....

The back deck was completely covered to the railing also. Cory makes a path and tunnel for the dogs. That is our picnic table. Winslow climbed on top and jumped off into the back yard on the other side. Mom was worried he would sufficate. The snow was even with the deck in the yard on the other side.

Cory shoveled some more so Winslow couldn't do that again. He is sooo disappointed. He thinks he is a husky snow dog....not!

Utah, Kylie, Shooting, and Sking

I usually go to Utah for the week of Thanksgiving. This year I was not planning to go. I just finished the last of the 7 scrapbook albums for Kyile from birth to high school graduation. Yep, that was 7 years ago and it took 7 years to complete 7 books. Also I finished her Police graduation album. When Kylie mentioned she was having mouth surgery just before Thanksgiving and that I could come up then, well being "MOM", I felt I had to help her. So it worked out to take up her books. They were to costly to mail anyway and much much to valuable. Cory asked if he go go sking as his Christmas present and since Kevin was unable to go with Cory , Cory took a friend, Derek. So off we set for a Utah adventure. We were going to drive, but Kylie found super cheap tickets if we just drove to Vegas and left from there. We parked our car at Uncle Randy's house and he shuttled us to and from the airport. Plus, we got to visit with the Randy Irwin family which was fun. Randy cooks up a good dinner! At the airport, we went through the security check and Derek forgot he had a tiny "leatherman " knife in his backpack. After surrendering it and much laughing we were on our way. (Kylie says they usually give a very big fine for that, but we were lucky and the security girl was very nice)

Cory and his friend Derek : After Kylie's surgery on Friday, the boys went out bowling and Mom stayed home to take care of Kylie. But the next day, Kylie felt better and took us shooting up the canyon with her new gun. What a blast. Even though Kylie was not feeling good, she wanted the boys to have fun. Cory hasn't been there for a long time and she wanted him to enjoy himself.

Mom, however, is the bomb at shooting! Kylie taught her well. She is now hooked! Infact, too hooked. She loves it!

When Ro came out of the Marie Osmond signing, she saw smoke at a distance. She asked a woman out front if any word on where the fire was. She replied that it was off the 91 @ gypsum canyon. What a chill! That is Brenna's off ramp. She lives in the houses right there and the river bed is in the back of her house off of La Palma. In a panic she tried to reach Brenna. However, being a beautiful week-end in November, they took off to the beach. When finally getting a hold of her, (she had no idea they were under manditory evacuation) she headed for home. Unable to get through, they stood watching what appeared to be their neighborhood burning. These are her pictures which she has a better detailed summery on her blog. We managed to get down to her and sit with them at Scott's parent's house waiting for the news.

After all was done and they were able to get back in, this was her chimmney and the only damage they sustained.

Cory had to do a project of a plant cell. It had to be 100% ediable. He mad this out of cookie dough and candy. The teacher loved it and gave him a A and he also got one of the top votes which gave him extra credit as well. Good job!

X-Country 08...or not

X-country this year for Cory was a bust. He started out to run this year, and then developed some sort of breathing problem. He had a couple of close calls when exercising. He did try to run this one race, which resulted in difficulty breathing so he took the rest of the season off. He is now gearing up for track season.

Cory was very proud of his robot costume. His friend Derek was a bag of popcorn. He popped corn for something like 4 hours to fill the bag. Cory made his costume after school at the last minute while waiting for Derek to fill his bag. They went all around Wrightwood, walking in the rain leaving a popcorn trail.

Since everyone was home for Jeffs Wedding, The family got together at Brennas house for Corys birthday. It was great fun! We had a family favorite dinner of "PORK ROLL". (defenitaly not spam). He got the most outragious present from the Prestons. Unfortunatly that pic was deleted off. It was his Borat Suit which showed most of his Birthday Suit! We all had a great laugh. Later on his actual birthday mom,dad, and Kevin went to dinner at B.J.'s Pizza. Cory also got his drivers permit.

Summer 08

During the summer, the Birds came out to Calif. and we were all able to enjoy some good ole' summer time fun with the family. Why they spent some time at the beach with Grandpa Mike and the Irwin side of the family (catch pics on their blogs) Grandma Ro went to Utah to the Ro - deo. (rodeo). Since Kylie now works at the airport as a officer, she got to see her in action at work. It was pretty exciting. Mom even got a escort , lights and all to the freeway to help her find the way. We traveled 1 hour for lunch to a burger bar . The Rodeo was so much fun. I do believe we should make it a tradition. Check out our cowgirl hats....Pink of course. Then Mom learned how to shoot um up! Computers and boxes that is. Turns out, she's a pretty good shot! When Mom returned to Calif. she spent alot of time doing fun things with the Birds.

Grandma Ro and the girls had a tea party night. We had milk and cookies, watched princess movies stayed up VERY late. But first, we took Winslow for a walk and made sure he was fed. Each girl took a turn walking him. Cami worked very hard to be brave. Winslow just loved her. He thought she was gental and loved giving kisses.

After Grandma Ro's sleep over with the girls, we met Ami and Brenna and all the kids to go to the O.C. Fair. On the way there there was a Earth Quake and everyone felt it. Cells were not working and power was off for a bit. But everyone had a fun-tastic day.

Mammoth Mountain Bike Trip

Cory and several friends took a mountain biking trip up to Mammoth. They had a expierence of a life time. The weather was great. Why the boys were riding, Ro spent time at the condo scrapbooking, exploring, sitting in the spa and enjoying the quiet. One afternoon Ro went on the gondola to the very tippy top. You could see all the way to Reno. And as she looked down she could see the boys riding the trail.

July 4th and the Monster Truck Show

This was a very different way to spend the 4th of July. Kevin, Cory and their friends Charlette, and Jason and mom went to the Monster Truck Show. There was also freestyle motorcross as well. Then followed by some different fireworks. The Firework show at the fairplex was called "KABOOM" This first truck was driven by a tiny girl. Trucks just aren't for boys...

Memorial Day in Wrightwood usually marks the beginning of warm summer days, the traditional memorial day garage sales, and the opening of the country club (glorified swimming hole). Not this year.... Our pupster Winslow just dosen't know what to make of this.
When all said and done. Wrightwood was left with 3 inches of snow, and school was canceled due to road conditions.

Kardin is born

We all anxiously awaited the birth of Brenna's baby Miss Kardin Kay Preston. She choose to have perfect timing to be born. Grandma got to be super mom by successfully making it to all important events and not missing a beat. After leaving the track banquet and seeing Cory get his letter, she managed to make it just in time to be there for the birth of Kardin. Then she left for her flight to Utah early the next morning to catch Kylie's Police Acadamy Graduation. Grandma Ro was so happy she didn't miss a thing. Especially the birth of one of her princesses.

This year Cory ran track and was awsome! Kevin had the opportunity to be the hurdle coach. Which meant he coached Cory and was probably why Cory did so well. Kevin was not only a great hurdler, but he was an outstanding coach. Cory won several medals, came in first place, and worked hard to earn his LETTER. At the banquet it was presented to him by his brother Kevin.

In April, Kevin and Cory went to the prom. Last year, Cory was a freshman prince. This year his date was a senior princess. They had a blast, and of course looked hansome doing it.

California Irwins Visit the Texas Birds

Our trip to Texas was full of adventures and lots of fun. Grandma Ro and Cory flew there, while Grandpa Mike drove his semi-truck. Grandpa arrived first and spent the day with the kids at the park. Last time grandpa took the kids to the park Rilynn broke her arm (elbow). This time Trenton broke his arm (wrist). Everyone had fun giving poor grandpa a bad time about parks being off limits for him unless there are rubber things for them to bounce off of.

Meanwhile: The adventure began for Ro and Cory who almost missed their flight.

They closed the doors of the plane and started pulling away before we could find a left over isle seat. Saturday was full of fun going to Cami and Kadie's soccer game. Cami scored 3 goals and Kadie played tough.

Trenton was unable to play due to his injury-but he took team pics.
Then it was off to Mac's baseball game where he made a run into home for his team!
After we all napped we went to Kemah Boardwalk. We all road the Ferris Wheel and a few of us braved the very wicked roller coaster. Ro and Mac paid the price for the trill afterward. Mac's chest and shoulder and Ro's back hurt so bad. But, Grandma Hainey came to our rescue with icy hot patches.

We all went out for pizza. Ro and Grandma Hainey shared in the backaches while Trenton was simply exausted from a long day.

Ro and Cory began the adventure back home. Our plane left Houston and went to Denver, Co. There our plane had a switch and was on the way to Tampa, Fl. instead of LAX??? SO, we finally figured out just before they pulled away that we were being routed to Vegas. So we quickly caught that plane. In Vegas, we were told that there was another switch and our crew was going to North Carolina. We finally left Vegas for LAX. Upon arrival we found out Cory's bag went to Tampa.

Albert (Ro's brother) and friend Art took Ro to see "THE BOSS" in concert. We had excellent seats as you can see. There were no cameras allowed at all. We tried twice to get some pics and almost got our cameras taken away. But we managed to snap a few good ones.

At the last minute, our Bishop said he and their family were going to Utah and had a extra seat in their car. They offered a ride to go to see Kylie and Aaron and Ro hitched the ride.

On Friday night, Kylie and Aaron took mom to the Mayan Restaurant.

Meet Winslow

Kevin found this little 6-7-week old pup in the parking lot of Jensens. He brought him home and named him Winslow. The vet thought he was a Chow Mix, but we have recently learned that he most certainly is a Akita Mix. We tried to find him another home after the other dogs and he didn't take to each other. We even tried to give him to Brenna as a housewarming gift. No one wanted this little orphan except some guy outside of Walmart that Mike was going to give him to. (He may eat dogs for all we know). And by that time, Kevin and I could not give him up. We are finding a lot of interesting things about this breed. They are very loyal to their family. They will fight and die for their family, and will battle a wild bear to protect them without backing down. They are used as guard dogs and therapy dogs. Yea, after having an Akita, you need therapy!

Helen Keller had the very first Akita in the United States. With proper training they may like you.

He was 10.8 pounds here. In three weeks he has grown to 21 pounds. But...He will get to be 100 to 130 pounds. And....they are not good outside dogs. They must be inside. Hmmm!
When he could fit in Mike's coat to be sneaked into a track meet. Try that a few pounds from now....Not!

Kevin and Cory went to Winter Formal. They went in a big group. Some had dates such as Kevin and Charlette, of course. Others just went as part of the group.

Snow in Wrightwood

We have just had our biggest winter storm since moving to Wrightwood. It resulted in 3 days of no school, 3 avalanches, down powerlines and road closures. All in all, about 4 feet of snow.Plowing our street
Teeka, one of our dogs loved it. However, Tai Chi our pug wanted no part of it!Ro would throw doggie bones into the snow and Teeka would bury her head in trying to find them. When she lifted her head she looked like a "SNOWDOG".

Mountain Bike Race

Last Saturday the boys were invited to go on a mountain bike race. It was a first for Cory. We all didn't know what to expect. It was a lot of fun and very interesting to watch. I think they now have it in their veins. Kevin got the clearance from the doctor to try next time.
